Epipactis leptochila subsp. neglecta has been described by KÜMPEL in 1982, in 1996 he changed the subspecies to the rank of a species as Epipactis neglecta. It differs from Epipactis leptochila subsp. leptochila not only by the back-bended epichile, but also by the flowering time which is about two weeks earlier. At Epipactis neglecta there are big variations, too, including populations which are standing between KÜMPEL's neglecta and Epipactis helleborine.
Im fruiting state the seed capsules of neglecta are usually standing horizontally, while those of Epipactis helleborine often are slightly tilted downwards, but this attribute is not matching hundred percent.
The knowledge of Epipactis leptochila subsp. neglecta, to which in between plants from many parts of Europe are counted, is currently not very consolidated, so in the next years changes and separations of regional clans may be expected.
