As Prof. PAULUS explained in a lecture (video conference) for the AHO Baden-Württemberg on January 21, 2022,
there are late flowering Burnt Orchids not only in relatively dry biotopes,
at least in the region of Vienna (northeast Austria) they are also available in wet meadows (Molinetum).
The latter may represent a clan different from Neotinea ustulata subsp. aestivalis.
He suspects several post-Ice Age colonization waves that have specifically developed further.
The late flowering Burnt Orchids in Southern England seem rather to be related
to the early flowering Neotinea ustulata s.str.
than to the continental Neotinea ustulata subsp. aestivalis.
