Erst in jüngster Zeit setzt sich wieder die eigentlich sehr alte Erkenntnis durch, dass es verschiedene unterscheidbare Sippen der Weißen Waldhyazinthe in Mittel- und Nordeuropa gibt. Die hier gezeigte, in Mitteleuropa (und auch in Südeuropa) häufigste der Weißen Waldhyazinthen ist eine mit großer Statur (30 - 60 cm) und einem meist lockeren Blütenstand aus relativ großen Blüten. Die Lippe ist deutlich länger als die seitlichen Sepalen. Sie blüht relativ früh. Plantanthera bifolia subsp. latifolia besiedelt gerne basische Standorte (z.B. auf Kalk). Der früher oft für die große Weiße Waldhyazinthe gebrauchte Name Platanthera solstitialis BÖNNINGH. ex RCHB. 1830 ist ungültig, er wurde ohne Beschreibung und Abbildung veröffentlicht, und wurde in der Vergangenheit für verschiedene mitteleuropäische Platanthera-Sippen benutzt.
Sie ist nicht identisch mit der von LINNÉ beschriebenen Platanthera bifolia subsp. bifolia.

Only recently the actually rather old realization is winning recognition again that there are different distinct clans of the Lesser Butterfly Orchid in central and northern Europe. The Lesser Butterfly Orchid shown here, which is the most common clan in Central Europe (and also in southern Europe), is one with a large stature (30 - 60 cm) and usually a lax inflorescence of relatively large flowers. The lip is distinctly longer than the lateral sepals. It blooms relatively early. Plantanthera bifolia subsp. latifolia likes to grow at basic locations (e.g. on lime). The name Platanthera solstitialis BONNINGH. ex RCHB. 1830 is invalid, it was published without description and illustration, and in the past it was used for various Central European Platanthera clans.
It is not identical with Platanthera bifolia subsp. bifolia described by LINNÉ.
