Ophrys provincialis is an orchid of southeastern France, distributed in the Provence and in the most eastern parts of the Languedoc. Since its pollinating insect is Anthophora atriceps, PAULUS and GACK in Jour.Eur.Orch.31(2) are wondering, whether Ophrys provincialis has descended from a species of the argolica-group, which in most cases are pollinated by bees of genus Anthophora, for example Ophrys morisii from Corse or Ophrys crabronifera from Tuscany.
