The biotope type 'flax field' existed so long and numerous during the development of human culture that even a number of specially adapted weeds could develop. The corresponding plant community is called 'Sileno-linicolae-Linetum'. The Botanical Garden of the University of Mainz maintains a small conservation culture of these plants, which are almost extinct since flax isn't grown anymore.

The seed capsules of the Flaxfield Catchfly Silene linicola have a similar shape and size as those of the flax, which helped to maintain its reproduction and distribution.

This grass, which is specially adapted to flax culture, is closely related to Darnel Rye-Grass  Lolium temulentum, and may also have developed out of Darnel Rye-Grass.

The Flax Corn Cockle Agrostemma linicola grows in Eastern Europe and Middle East. It is very similar to the Corn Cockle Agrostemma githago, but grows only about as tall as the flax plants. Its seed capsules are similar to those of the flax, so they could badly separated in the seeds.
