    Ambrosia trifida  L.

Fam.: Asteraceae / Composite Fam.

Genus:  Ambrosia  L.

Authors:
L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals

Etymology:
Ambrosia:   Greek plant name, from a brotos = immortal
   trifida:   with three clefts

This American weed has been introduced to Mannheim about in 1850 by merchant shipping, and survived until today. But currently findings have become very rare.
The globes which are surrounded by leaves in the lower part of the third photo are female blossoms, above these many male blossoms can be seen. The plant is pollinated by the wind, which blows the pollen onto the stigmatic cave of the female blossoms.
