Etymology:
   Cedrus:   Greek name of a tree
   libani:   from Libanon
 

Trees of the Cedar of Lebanon are monoecious, every tree ist either male or female. The female cone of the Cedar of Lebanon remains at the tree for about two years until it is ripe with a diameter of about 6 cm. Then it disintegrates to single scales with seed, which fall down on the ground. The empty rhachis remains at the tree for some more months until it falls down.
