Etymology: | |||
Chenopodium: | chenos = goose, podos = foot
album: | white | ||
pedunculare: | with petiolate flower
This clan, some treat it even as species Chenopodium pedunculare, differs from Chenopodium album by the small flower clusters which are sitting on a peduncle and by the leaves almost without teeth. But as Rolf WISSKIRCHEN describes in Kochia 16: 121-140 in 2023, sowing attempts led to the result that this clan doesn't deserve a name of its own, because the offspring had no more pedunculare traits, they were identical to Chenopodium album. The pedunculare plants are therefore not hereditary. In order to identify finds of such plants, WISSKIRCHEN proposes 'Chenopodium album mod. pedunculare', where 'mod.' means 'modification', which does not represent a rank according to the rules of botanical nomenclature.
