Etymology:
   Chenopodium:   chenos = goose, podos = foot
   giganteum:   giant
   amaranticolor:   purple colored
 

Chenopodium giganteum grows two to three meters tall and is naturalized in parts of the Mediterranean. Its origin is supposed in the Himalayas. In Central Europe sold seed of 'Chenopodium giganteum' comes often from the hybrid with Chenopodium album, of which the name is Chenopodium x reynieri.
