Diptam Dictamnus albus ist vor allem in Asien und dem östlichen Mittelmeergebiet verbreitet, wächst aber auch selten an warmen Stellen in Mitteleuropa. Drüsen an den borstigen Stängeln geben große Mengen an ätherischen Ölen ab, die stark nach einer Mischung von Zitrone und Vanille riechen. Diese Öle sind phototoxisch, das heißt, wenn sie nach dem Berühren nicht gleich abgewaschen werden, können sich im Zusammenspiel mit Sonnenlicht auf der menschlichen Haut Dermatosen bilden, die erst nach Wochen heilen.

The attractively blooming Burning Bush Dictamnus albus is particularly common in Asia and the eastern Mediterranean, but rarely also growing in warm places in Central Europe. Glands on the bristly stems are releasing large amounts of essential oils which are strongly smelling of a mixture of lemon and vanilla. These oils are phototoxic, which means that if they are not washed off immediately after touching, in combination with sunlight they can lead to dermatoses on the human skin, which can last weeks until healing.
