Epilobium: | epi = über, lobon = Schote / epi = above, lobon = silique
ciliatum: | bewimpert / ciliate
The white petals of Epilobium ciliatum subsp. ciliatum are somewhat smaller than those of its roseate sister species Epilobium ciliatum subsp. adenocaulon. The stems of the two subspecies are at least in the upper part glandular hairy. Their bracts are much smaller than the middle stem leaves. The leaves of the group of the Fringed Willowherbs are finer sawn than in other willowherbs with sawn leaf margins. As Epilobium brachycarpum also the group of the Fringed Willowherbs Epilobium ciliatum, Epilobium adenocaulon, and Epilobium glandulosum are neophytes coming from America.
