The hybrid between the Rough Horsetail Equisetum hyemale
and the Branched Horsetail Equisetum ramosissimum
can be found at the shore of upper river Rhine.
Differently to the Rough Horsetail many stems are branched in the upper part.
Equisetum x moorei is green in winter but not as persistent as the Rough Horsetail.
As several other attributes the central hole in the interior of the stem is intermediate.
At the hybrids from Hagen (Fig. 17 to 21) not the European Rough Horsetail Equisetum hyemale,
but the taller subspecies Equisetum hyemale subsp. affine is involved, which in Europe is available in the garden trade.
This hybrid occurs in East Asia in nature, but had not yet been described as a hybrid subspecies.
So only after the finding at Hagen it was described as
Equisetum x moorei NEWMAN nothosubsp. nipponicum LUBIENSKI in 2022.
