    Phelipanche schultzii  (MUTEL) POMEL

Fam.: Orobanchaceae / Broomrape Fam.

Genus:  Phelipanche  POMEL

Authors:
MUTEL:  Pierre Auguste Victor Mutel (1795 - 1847), French botanist
POMEL:  Auguste Pomel (1821 - 1898), French geologist and palaeontologist

Etymology:
   Phelipanche:   Louis (1643 - 1727) and Hieronymus (1674 - 1747) Phelypeaux, French officers
schultzii:   Friedrich Wilhelm Schultz (1804 - 1876), German pharmacist and botanist (F. W. SCHULTZ)

Formerly such usually blue colored plants have been assigned to genus Orobanche. From other Orobanche they differ by additional narrow lateral bracts (bracteoles on both sides of the wider central bract) outside of the calyx tube. Therefore they have been recombined to an own genus Phelipanche.
Phelipanche schultzii is parasite of many different plants, often of Apiaceae, but also of Rubia peregrina, Stachys glutinosa, and Scorpiurus. Usually Phelipanche schultzii grows higher than the plant which I photographed in a rather dry year.
