Man nimmt an, dass die Haferschlehe oder Krieche Prunus x fruticans als Hybridsippe aus der Schlehe Prunus spinosa und der Kriechen-Pflaume Prunus insititia entstand oder in früheren Zeiten gezüchtet wurde. Die Früchte sind etwas größer und süßer als die der Schlehe, die Blätter breiter, und sie hat weniger Dornen.

It is assumed that Prunus x fruticans came into being as hybrid clan between the Sloe (Blackthorn) Prunus spinosa and the Damson Prunus insititia or its was breeded in former times. The fruits are somewhat bigger and sweeter than those of the Sloe, the leaves wider, and it has less thorns.
