   Quercus:   Roman name of the oak
   turneri:   William Turner (1508 - 1568), English botanist
   ilex:   hyléeis = woody
   robur:   oak wood

The winter green Turner's Oak is an artificial hybrid from England. Parents are the Evergreen OakParents are the Evergreen Oak Quercus ilex from the Mediterranean and the Common Oakand the Common Oak Quercus robur from Central Europe. It is the only winter green oak which is hardy in Central European wine-growing climate. In spring the leaves are exchanged little by little over a longer period.
