   Silene:   Silen, Greek legendary figure
   vulgaris:   common
   prostrata:   flatly sprawled
   uniflora:   one-flowered
 

As Silene vulgaris subsp. glareosa Silene vulgaris subsp. prostrata is a petite mountain form. Silene vulgaris subsp. prostrata has wide leaves, but less flowers than glareosa, only one to three.
