Viola: | Roman plant name

scotophylla: | dark-leaved
The White Violet Viola alba subsp. alba has light green leaves and a greenish spur. In the subspecies scotophylla shown in this page the leaves become very dark over time and at least the spur is tinged with violet, if not the entire flower. Both subspecies of the White Violet have narrower stipules than the related Sweet Violet Viola odorata. In all of the clans mentioned, the sepals are rounded at the front.
