left arrowball, from Animation City   Ophrys phryganae ?

While Ophrys lutea has a rather big labellum with a length of about 16 mm in most parts of Sicily, I found Ophrys lutea s.l. in the region of S. Stefano Quisquina with a small labellum of only about 12 mm length, which is hardly longer than that of Ophrys sicula.

This could be Ophrys phryganae, which is otherwise widespread in the Eastern Mediterranean. According to H.F.PAULUS in Jour.Eur.Orch 52 (2-4): 355ff (2020) there is generally still a need for clarification regarding Ophrys phryganae because it is described from Crete and has the pollinating bee Andrena panurgimorpha there. In other parts of the eastern Mediterranean, e.g. Attika, there are plants which are morphologically not or hardly distinguishable, but which are not sexually attractive for the Cretan bee, but for Andrena humilis and the closely related Andrena clypella.
