In Palatinate (Germany) and neighbouring northern end of Vosges (France) there are Dactylorhiza populations in moors, which are close to Dactylorhiza traunsteineri. Partly they show also influence of Dactylorhiza sphagnicola. The orchids have rather small leaves. The loop drawings on the lips are often dissolved to dots, which I think is a sign for the hybridogene origin of these orchid populations. See also: WOLFF, P. Already in this article WOLFF had proposed the name Dactylorhiza traunsteineri subsp. vosagiaca, i.e. Wasgau Orchid according to the name of the region on both sides of the French-German border, but not until 2010 it has been published validly. In May 2012 Ulrich HEIDTKE informed me, that the orchids are genetically closer to Dactylorhiza majalis than to Dactylorhiza traunsteineri or to Dactylorhiza sphagnicola, therefore he plans a publication which will change the name of the plants. Since the plants are morphologically rather different from Dactylorhiza majalis a name on species rank will most probably be chosen.
