Genus:  Ophrys  L.

Ophrys laurensis MELKI & GENIEZ (1992) has been described from the region of Monte Lauro near Buccheri. It is a very uniform subfusca s.l., which has a glossy labellum and tall petals. The high altitude of the sites is the reason for the late flowering period, middle of april to may. The pollinating insect is Andrena fulvitarsis, as PAULUS wrote 2020 in Jour.Eur.Orch. 52 (2-4): 255ff. DELFORGE showed this bee already in 2001 in Natural.belges 82 (Orchid. 14): 144-148, but determined it wrongly. A recent finding of the species has been done in the Monte Erei near Enna.
