Ophrys alasiatica, an endemic orchid of Cyprus, has been described in 2002 by KREUTZ, SEGERS und WALRAVEN in Jour.Eur.Orch. 34(3): 480. It is rather early in flower, and looking similar to Ophrys sphegodes and mammosa. The rounded lip has often a yellow edge, the basal area is lighter than the basic color of the lip. In Cyprus Ophrys morio, which is similar to Ophrys transhyrcana, and Ophrys mammosa (subsp. posteria), which is later in flower, are similar, while mentionings of Ophrys sintenisii for Cyprus belong to Ophrys alasiatica, too. Ophrys alasiatica has a smaller lip with different pattern than Ophrys morio and than Ophrys posteria. |
