Ophrys araneola RCHB. s.l. Gargano
Fam.: Orchidaceae / Orchid Family
Genus: Ophrys L.
In the context of their orchid mapping of the Promontorio del Gargano in 1987 LORENZ and GEMBARDT mentioned this very small flowered Ophrys, which is already in flower in April on the nearly bald crests between Coppa di Mezzo and Monte Spigno in an altitude of approximately 900 m. It doesn't seem to be identical with any other species which I know. However in GIROS Notizie 20 (2002) on page 11 it is called Ophrys virescens, to which I can't agree. It could rather be identical with Ophrys tommasinii, which is also early in flower in Croatia.
