As H. F. Paulus and M. Hirth 2014 are describing in J.Eur.Orch. 46 (2): 233ff, based on new analysis of the herbary sheet LXIX from Jany Renz, printed in 1928 in Fedde Repert 25, Ophrys leucadica and Ophrys punctulata are different species. The real Ophrys leucadica shown here is looking more similar to the Western Mediterranean Ophrys bilunulata. It is an endemism of the islands of Cephalonia and Ithaca, and pollinated by Andrena fimbriata. The reason is that Devillers and Devillers-Terschuren 2004 neo-typified such a blossom as Ophrys leucadica out of the heterogenous herbary sheet from Jany Renz, on which also slightly smaller blossoms of the similar Ophrys punctulata are available. Ophrys punctulata is widespread in the Eastern Mediterranean and pollinated by Andrena flavipes.
