Etymology:
	Ophrys:	Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
	morio:	clown

Ophrys morio H.F.PAULUS & KREUTZ has been described in 2004 in KREUTZ's book on the orchids of Cyprus. It covers the orchids which formerly have been called Ophrys transhyrcana, but it differs from that more eastern growing species, and has another pollinator. Ophrys morio is pollinated by the solitary bee Andrena morio, from which the orchid got its name.
Ophrys morio can best be distinguished from the similar Ophrys posteria by the color of the stigmatic cave: at Ophrys morio it has almost the same brown as the lip, in Ophrys posteria it is much darker, almost black.
