Ophrys tarquinia P.DELFORGE

Ophrys tarquinia has been described in 2000 by DELFORGE in Natural.belges 81. The emphasis of this species' spreading is located in southern Tuskany and northern Latium, predominantly in the interior away from the coast. Beside alkaline soils it accepts sour substrate, too, down to a pH value of 4. It is an arachnitiforme Ophrys with green perigon. The lip has often a ramificated speculum, and doesn't have swellings usually. The sizes of the lips are varying in a big range, even within the same sites. In Natural.belges 83 (Orchid. 15) : 36-38 DELFORGE states that the pollinator of Ophrys tarquinia is Andrena tibialis.
In J.Eur.Orch. 43 (4): 759-784 (2011) ROMOLINI and SOCA described an Ophrys maritima from the coastal regions of Tuscany and Liguria, but not very professionally, because it lacks any differential diagnosis or comparison with the similar species of the region. Ophrys maritima seems to differ from Ophrys tarquinia only by its undivided lip, which is not a high-grade attribute, so this Ophrys maritima will most probably fall into synonymy soon.

Etymology:
	Ophrys:	Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
