Die Folterpflanze Araujia sericifera gehört zu den Seidenpflanzengewächsen und stammt aus Südamerika. Sie wurde im 19. Jahrhundert als Zierpflanze eingeführt, und ist heute in Nordspanien an mehreren Stellen verwildert. Den deutschen Namen Folterpflanze hat sie bekommen, weil die Blüten die Rüssel von Schmetterlingen, die sie besuchen, festhalten.

The Moth Plant Araujia sericifera belongs to the Asclepiadaceae and comes from South America. It has been introduced in the 19th century as ornamental plant, in between it has run wild at several locations of Northern Spain. The blossom of the plant, which is called Moth Plant among other names, is clamping the proboscis of moths which are visiting it.
