Carex polyphylla ist eine kräftige Pflanze, die Stängel der Pflanze in Bad Dürkheim sind zum Beispiel bis zu 75 cm lang, ihre Blätter bis zu 5 mm breit. Sie besitzt 5 bis 10 Ährchen, von denen unteren sehr lückig angeordnet sind. Carex divulsa besitzt eine ähnliche Statur des Blütenstandes, sie bildet aber keine Horste, sonden dichte niedrige Rasen, und nur bis zu 3 mm breite Blätter.

The inflorescense of Carex divulsa has a similar stature, but it does not form tussocks, creating instead dense, low mats, and its leaves are only up to 3 mm wide.
