Die Pflanze kommt in der Oberrheinischen Tiefebene (Baden, Elsass) und auch rheinabwärts in Nordrhein-Westfalen und Holland vor. Auffällige Unterschiede zu Equisetum hyemale sind der hohe Wuchs von bis zu 2 m Länge und die längeren Scheiden.
