Die Knospen sollen rein grün sein, was bei den Pflanzen in Bad Hersfeld nicht der Fall ist, die sind rötlich gestreift. Der Stiel der Knospen (Hypanthium) ist drüsig. Die Stängelblätter haben rote Rippen. Nach der Internetseite 'Mittelmeerflora' von Thomas Meyer, der mit dem Nachtkerzen-Spezialisten Michael Hassler zusammen arbeitet, sollen die Blütenstandsachse und der Stängel von Oenothera flaemingina rot überlaufen sein. Nach Rostanski ist Oenothera flaemingina hybridogen aus Oenothera jueterbogensis und Oenothera rubricaulis hervor gegangen, nach Hassler aber aus Oenothera ammophila und Oenothera canovirens oder Oenothera editicaulis.
