Solche meist blau gefärbte Pflanzen wurden früher der Gattung Orobanche zugeordnet. Sie unterscheiden sich von den anderen Orobanchen durch schmale Neben-Brakteen (Tragblätter beiderseits des breiteren Mittel-Tragblatts) außerhalb der Kelchröhre, und wurden deshalb in eine eigene Gattung Phelipanche umgruppiert.
Phelipanche nana schmarotzt auf einer breiten Palette einheimischer Pflanzen wie verschiedenen Trifolium und Medicago (Fabaceae), Aetheorhiza bulbosa, Hedypnois rhagadioloides und Sonchus oleraceus (Asteraceae), Caucalis und Orlaya (Apiaceae), Geranium robertianum (Geraniaceae), Sherardia arvensis (Rubiaceae), Plantago lanceolata (Plantaginaceae), verschiedenen Alyssum und Diplotaxis (Brassicaceae), Potentilla recta (Rosaceae), und weiteren Arten.

Formerly such usually blue colored plants have been assigned to genus Orobanche. From other Orobanche they differ by additional narrow lateral bracts (bracteoles on both sides of the wider central bract) outside of the calyx tube. Therefore they have been recombined to an own genus Phelipanche.
Phelipanche nana is a parasite on a wide range of native plants, such as various Trifolium and Medicago (Fabaceae), Aetheorhiza bulbosa, Hedypnois rhagadioloides, and Sonchus oleraceus (Asteraceae), Caucalis and Orlaya (Apiaceae), Geranium robertianum (Geraniaceae), Sherardia arvensis (Rubiaceae), Plantago lanceolata (Plantaginaceae), various Alyssum and Diplotaxis (Brassicaceae), Potentilla recta (Rosaceae), and more species.
