Remarkable plants at the Rhine dams of Mannheim


Some very frequent as well as some rare plants of the Rhine dams, the fixed banks of the Rhine and the Rhine harbours, and also unfixed banks of the Rhine near Mannheim are shown here.
At the fixed banks along the Rhine at Mannheim there are thousands of stems of two plants which are rare elsewhere: Pulicaria vulgaris / Small Fleabane Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Pulicaria vulgaris / Small Fleabane Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Pentanema britannicum / Meadow Fleabane, Yellowhead Asteraceae / Composite Fam.
At a certain part of the fixed Rhine bank at the Friesenheim Island in the North of Mannheim I found several partly rather rare plants within a distance of 100 meters:
Bidens cernua / Nodding Bur-Marigold Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Bidens frondosa / Devil's Beggartick Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Allium angulosum / Angle Onion Amaryllidaceae / Amaryllis Fam.
Xanthium albinum / Riverside Cocklebur Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Xanthium albinum / Riverside Cocklebur Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Symphyotrichum x salignum / Glaucous Michaelmas Daisy, Smooth Blue Aster = Symphyotrichum lanceolatum x novi-belgii Asteraceae / Composite Fam.

The Sweet Potato ran wild along the banks: Helianthus tuberosus / Jerusalem Artichoke Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	A rare Umbellifer in the industrial port and on the Friesenheim island: Anthriscus caucalis / Bur Chervil Apiaceae / Umbellifers	This is not the Yellow or Red Nightshade, but a color variant of the Black Nightshade, found in the north of the Friesenheim island: Solanum nigrum subsp. luteovirescens / Greenish Nightshade Solanaceae / Nightshade Fam.
A frequent plant of wet sites mainly at non-fixed banks of the Rhine, e.g. at the Reiss Island in the South of Mannheim: Rorippa sylvestris / Creeping Yellow-Cress Brassicaceae / Crucifers	A frequent plant of dryer sites, mainly on dams, e.g. on the Friesenheim island: Medicago x varia / Sand Lucerne = Medicago falcata x sativa Fabaceae / Legumes	Medicago x varia / Sand Lucerne = Medicago falcata x sativa Fabaceae / Legumes
These three frequent plants of the port of Mannheim-Rheinau are all neophytes:
Dittrichia graveolens / Stinking Fleabane Asteraceae / Composite Fam.	Verbena bracteata / Bracted Vervain Verbenaceae / Verbena Fam.	Senecio inaequidens / Narrow-Leaved Ragwort Asteraceae / Composite Fam.
At the Rhine banks north of the Koller ferry south of Mannheim I found these plants among others: Aristolochia clematitis / Birthwort Aristolochiaceae / Birthwort Fam.	Aristolochia clematitis / Birthwort Aristolochiaceae / Birthwort Fam.	Verbascum blattaria / Moth Mullein Scrophulariaceae / Figwort Fam.
