Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum kommt eher in felsigen Biotopen vor, während Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii eine Sippe sandiger Biotope ist. Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum besitzt eher etwas größere, kräftig gelbe Blüten, rundere Schötchen, und eher breitere Blätter. Die morphologischen Unterschiede sind nicht immer eindeutig, doch molekulargenetische Untersuchungen bestätigten die Eigenständigkeit beider Sippen.

Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum is more commonly found in rocky habitats, while Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii is the clan found in sandy habitats. Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum has somewhat larger, deep yellow flowers, rounder silicles, and broader leaves. The morphological differences are not always distinct, but molecular genetic studies confirmed the distinctness of both clans.
