Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii kommt eher in sandigen Biotopen vor, während Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum eine Sippe felsiger Biotope ist. Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii hat etwas kleinere, blassgelbe Blüten, länglichere Schötchen, und eher schmalere Blätter. Die morphologischen Unterschiede sind nicht immer eindeutig, doch molekulargenetische Untersuchungen bestätigten die Eigenständigkeit beider Sippen.

Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii is more commonly found in sandy habitats, while Alyssum montanum subsp. montanum is the subspecies found in rocky habitats. Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii has somewhat smaller, pale yellow petals, more elongated silicles, and rather narrow leaves. The morphological differences are not always distinct, but molecular genetic studies confirmed the distinctness of both clans.
