| Dictamnus albus L. | ||
| Fam.: Rutaceae / Rue Fam.
|
| Genus: Dictamnus L. |
The attractively blooming Burning Bush Dictamnus albus is particularly common in Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, but rarely also growing in warm places in Central Europe. Glands on the bristly stems are releasing large amounts of essential oils which are strongly smelling of a mixture of lemon and vanilla. These oils are phototoxic, which means that if they are not washed off immediately after touching, in combination with sunlight they can lead to dermatomes on the human skin, which can last weeks until healing. |
