Cultivars of the banana hybrid Musa x paradisiaca are the most widely grown bananas in the world and can be bought in any supermarket. The seeds in the fruit have been bred out, and the plants are propagated by cuttings. The banana dies once it has borne fruit, but often offshoots are growing on the root tuber.
