Vorige Art/previous species (Left arrowball from Animation City 1991)     Orobanche baumanniorum  GREUTER     Nächste Art/next species (Right arrowball from Animation City 1991)

Fam.: Orobanchaceae / Broomrape Fam.

Genus:  Orobanche  L.

Few meters away from the Pterocephalus perennis population with several Orobanche baumanniorum (Fig. 1 and 2) the single Orobanche shown in Fig. 3 grew together with Clinopodium alpinum subsp. meridionale. I assume that the roots of the old Pterocephalus perennis population extend that far and that this Broomrape is also Orobanche baumanniorum. Orobanche baumanniorum has first been found in 1974 at Parnitha, North of Athens, by the Baumann couple, and described in 1987 by Greuter.

Authors:
GREUTER:  Werner Rodolfo Greuter (1938 - ), Swiss botanist
L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals

Etymology:
Orobanche:   orobos = pea, anchein = to retch
baumanniorum:   Hellmut (1915 - 2009) und Heidi Baumann, Swiss botanists
Pterocephalus:   pteron = wing, kephale = head
   perennis:   perennial
Clinopodium:   kline = bed, podion = little foot
   alpinum:   from the Alps
   meridionale:   southern
