The Josta Berry is a horticultural breeding from 1959, which in its attributes is standing about between Goose Berry Ribes uva-crispa and Black Currant Ribes nigrum. The exact tetraploid hybrid formula is [Ribes nigrum 'Langtraubige Schwarze' x Ribes divaricatum] x [Ribes nigrum 'Silvergieters Schwarze' x Ribes uva-crispa 'Grüne Hansa'], within which Ribes divaricatum is the American Coastal Black Gooseberry, and the three other berries are European garden breedings. I found two young plants on a heap of earth which is a remainder from a house building on a property, which formerly was garden plot.
