The Half-Highbush Blueberry, of which the fruits can be bought in super markets, has not much to do with the European Bilberry Vaccinium myrtillus, but has been breeded from American Bluebeery Species. Mainly the bush-like Huckleberry (Northern Highbush Blueberry) Vaccinium corymbosum and the narrow-leaved Lowbush Blueberry Vaccinium angustifolium have been crossed, depending on the sort other American species as e.g. the Evergreen Blueberry Vaccinium darrowii can be crossbreeded, too. Opposite to the European Bilberry Vaccinium myrtillus the Half-Highbush Blueberry has bigger fruits with bright, less aromatical pulp. In Lower Saxonia (Niedersachsen) the Half-Highbush Blueberry run wild from plantings into many adjacent peat bogs. | ||
